Cold Double Glazing

Hi,

We moved into this house three years ago and had all of our windows & doors replaced with UPVC units just over two years ago.

There is a noticable draught coming off the windows, but it's not coming through any gaps as the units are all sealed OK. The draught seems to be due to convection - the warm air hitting the glass and cooling down.

During the recent cold weather, the draught was so bad, that everyone was sitting with a blanklet wrapped around their legs to keep warm. The room temperature itself was OK - it was just the continuous cold air coming off the window and along the floor.

When the curtains are closed, they can clearly be seen moving because of this draught.

When you touch the plastic frames. they don't feel cold, but touching the glass is like touching a block of ice.

I'm thinking of having the glazed units (not the frames) replaced with more efficient units - I know some glass has better insulating properties than others, but would apreciate any advice on this.

if you got a draught new units will not cure it, are you sure your hinges are not broken causing the sash not to seal to the frame?

the convection current would have to be very strong to move the curtains. is probably air leakage round the frame, opening sashes or the units (least likely).
