The shower in the upstairs bathroom takes its cold from the water tank in the loft. Why is this? Surely this will lower its pressure....Why not T off the mains water coming into the tank.

Is there a reason to doing it this way round?

Cheers

The simple answer is that both hot & cold supplies are at equal pressures, and therefore unaffected by someone turning a cold tap on downstairs, causing the the person in the shower to be scalded for example.

Stanley, is your shower an electric shower, with one pipe going into the unit, or a power shower, with two ? If it's one pipe, then it should be fed from the mains, teed off like you've said, not loft cistern as has been mentioned. What make / model is the shower?
