Water Tank in Loft

A question from a non techie!

I realise the water tank in my loft feeds cold water at gravity pressure to the Domestic Hot Water cylinder to be heated.

What would happen if water at mains pressure was feed into the cylinder, to be heated in the same way, thus dispensing with the water tank in the loft?

you can't do it on that type of indirect cylinder.

Ah, yes! I forgot about the vent pipe!

your cylinder will useally be a grade 3 cylinder and can with stand a 10m head 1 bar
