When all the cold taps are off in the house there is no noise so im confident there is no leak, we have very good water pressure in our area and when you use the cold tap in any room the rushing sound through the pipes is really loud. There are check valves on most items on our system, would i be right in sayign that if i changed these restricted check valves for full bore items the noise may go away?

This might well indeed be a problem of noise if you have really good flow/pressure, but bearing in mind it is law to have check valves fitted on the hot and cold to mixers, thermostatic mixers and outside taps / hose pipes.

If you have seperate hot and cold taps then there isn't really a need for a check valve.

leave the valves - fit one Pressure Reducing Valve on the incoming main
