We recently had all our windows replaced with sealed unit PVC. We were pleased with the work but now I am concerned about how the units that didn't have an opening were fitted. Where there is an opening I can see that the frame is screwed into the wall but if there is no opening how should the window be fitted? I would have thought the frame be screwed in and afterwards the sealed unit fitted. I didn't watch them fit the windows so I don't know if they did this or not.
Thanks - Steve

Well, not really but....... The front door has two side windows and I think the whole thing came as one complete unit. These two side windows don't open so I can't see if the frame is screwed to the wall. Internally they used a lot of plastic architraving butted up against the window/door frame. Now, they didn't do this anywhere else in the house and we had a large bay window and two patio doors fitted. We are about to decorate the hallway and I don't like this extra plastic. I was going to take it off but my daughter said they must have done for a reason and the only thing I can think of is that they didn't screw the frame to the wall where the side windows are.

The extra plastic trims will be for cosmetics only, usually done to cover up a nasty plaster line, maybe they lost a bit of plaster and instead of mixing some up and filling it in as well as leaving you some painting or wallpapering to do they thought it best just to trim it.

As for the fixings, if you think about it if they didn't fix the windows to the wall where have they fixed the frame? There will be none in the sides of the door frame because it doesn't touch the wall although there is an option of screwing up or down in through the door frame but you'll still need something in the middle. Without taking the glass out we will never know :?

Thanks Crank. You are probably right. I'll take the bits off and fill anything that need filling. It will look decent when I'm done with it.
