My pal and his wife had a very neat Stovax 'hole in the wall' type enclosed log burner professionally fitted last March. They have really only started to use it regularly these past few months but have noticed that they are getting enormous amounts of condensation throught the bungalow on the glass of the uPVC double glazed windows.

The windows are under ten years old and the glazing has a large air gap between panes. Previously they had a simple open fire in a conventional hearth. They did not suffer with condensation problems with the open fire.

Anybody any ideas because we are all puzzled?

insufficient ventilation since stopping the open fire

an open fire is inefficient because it sucks a vast amount of warm air up the chimney. this has the effect of ventilating the home.

do these people use an effective bathroom extractor, air their bedrooms, leave the window trickle-vents open, and dry their washing in the garden?
