Hi everyone, I'm fitting a new combi boiler into a different location but need a query answered if possible, the manual says to put a litre of water into the condensate trap through the exhaust, and that's about it, I'd just like to confirm that this means through the inner section of the flue port on top of the boiler?? I'm a mechanic by trade and have a lot of common sense so should be able to complete this job ok, also I'd like to say I am having a plumber in to do the gas work and commission it when finished, any help is appreciated. Thanks
Not one mate, and as I'm not a plumber only wanted to clarify that one point!! Had some advice before hand as to piping sizes flue positioning ect ect, as I said clarify that one point was all as I don't want to pour water where it's not meant to go, and I thought this site was to help people not be sarcastic because if that's why you're on here try Facebook instead!! I don't do to badly with plumbing repairs as I've kept my 30 year old ravenheat boiler going this long!!!
Advise on gas work is not allowed, and if you don't understand the construction of the boiler enough to know the answer then you are not competent to be doing the work you are doing.
Simple.
Doesn't matter a jot if you're a mechanic or not.
Your plumber is a fool for contemplating signing off other peoples work. Let alone work done by someone who doesn't know how a flue works.
You do know the answer already ? At least I hope you do.
If you do why not explain the reason. It would help to make the case that there are many things the "ignorant " DIYer does not know about gas appliance and the danger this ignorance can create is why gas advice is not given on this forum. Other than the advice DO NOT do any DIY gas work
Dan, the advice I was given was by a gas safe registered plumber friend actually, who knows I'm more than capable of doing this job, I'd of double checked with him about filling the trap except he's gone away for 3 weeks and it's him will be checking the job and testing it and connecting the gas piping, upon his return! The trap is a siphon and needs water in it to prime it so it can separate the condensate from the gases, simple question, does it go into the top?
The water in the U trap ( might be a different shape ) creates a seal to prevent combustion product gases leaving the combustion chamber via the condensate drain.
Dan. what is the procedure for firing up a condensing boiler that has not been used for a prolonged period during which time the water in the trap may have evaporated ?
