When a gas pipe in installed behind dot and daub plaster it need a continuous daub of adhesive around the pipe. Can you really rely on the plasterer to do this on a new build install.

Nope. Frankly, can you rely on anyone to do anything on a new build? Can you rely on the gas pipe being sized correctly, sleeved? Can you rely on the flue being screwed together? Can you rely on the person who fits the boiler gas and flue holding a Gas Safe ticket personally?

The answer to all these questions is no, it is virtually impossible to police, and builders are SO fussy about their gas installers. All they care about is price.

Just like the people buying the properties at the end.

That's why we don't work in new build, there's no money in it or job satisfaction.

Well the method I have seen on new builds before is to chase the pipe in a horizontal chase and encase in dry wall adhesive. Neither heard of the continuous daubs of adhesive around the pipe, but as you say if this is now the method for having a pipe behind dot and daub plaster could never imagine a plaster doing this. I requested the area around the bracket was solid daub out and it hasn't been.

I know a person who ran a cleaning company that cleaned new builds after the builders had "finished". The number of errors, omissions, mistakes and examples of sheer bad workmanship were beyond belief.

I haven't worked on new build recently but would usually run the pw outside as there are no problems with ventilation of enclosed spaces, fire protection in shared access areas etc.

If you are so worried, encase the pipe yourself. Lay it on nice and thick, should hold the picture hook nails in longer.

I thought you chased the pipe in to the wall then encased in dry wall adhesive before the plasterers daubed a board on. But in the viper book it shows the pipe not encased in the chase with dry wall adhesive over the pipe. But continuous daubs of dry wall adhesive around the pipe. I couldn't trust a plaster to do it the way it says in the viper book.

We aren't seriously back on this again are we!!! Yes, they are encased with DWA and then boarded. Easiest way to make sure that they are done right is to work with the boarders and make sure they do. Site work isn't that hard if you work together. The guys should know the spec of the job and your gaffer should be working with theirs to make sure it happens.

If you're really that bothered give it a chance to dry out and run a few test pilots to see whats there. Assuming you have marked where the gas is! OR when they are boarding dot the walls either side of the pipework yourself!

Why cant you trust the boarder? Do you speak to them at all?

Do you not fill the wall chase with dry wall adeshive around the pipe aswell as continuous daubs of adeshive around the pipe

No I'd just use the daubs either side and effectively create a chamber that the pipe is in. TBH there isn't a need to chase the pipe in the wall unless they are putting a very shallow dot and dab. most are around 20mm off the wall if not more.
