Can someone give an explanation as to why,
the osg says a 32amp mcb is suitable for cookers upto 15kw, which goes against the rules i alread understand for circ design...

15000/230 = 65a? even after diversity the figures dont work out am i missing something or just dumb ?

Cooker diversity for a household is 10A + 30% of the remaining + 5A for the socket.

15kW @ 230V = 65A

Applying diversity, cable and protective device should be rated for...

10 + (55 x 0.3) = 26.5A

+ 5A for socket = 31.5A

Personally I think you'd be off your trolley to run a 15kW cooker off a 32A device and probably on 6mm cable, and have a socket on the circuit somebody could plug a kettle into, but it's allowed! I think the regs must appreciate the fact that most people who own big electric Rangemasters and the like are rich yuppies who live on ready meals and takeouts :). If you actually want to use your cooker, you'd be well advised to have the cable and protective device rated much closer to the cooker's max load :).
