ahahhh..ok, I think everyone inferred from your OP that it took 2 hours to heat 2/3rds of a tank of water. With your last post I see your OP in a different light.
Heating 2/3rds of the hot water tank is ok if that is the level of the tank thermostat.
That being said a 30yr old cylinder will not be as efficient as a new one would by a long chalk.
