Hi Guys,

Have a patio area appro. 8' x 13'(walls on 3 sides) with minor repairs, in various places, done with mortar of a different colour. Open side has a step down to second level.

What could be used to cover the whole area to make good. I wondered if it was possible to prep surface (some form of adhesive?), then put a thin layer (say 1/2") of sand & cement (ratio?), rather like a scratch coat. Would this break up easily over time?
Base is now sound.
Didn't want to raise the height as much as screeding (2"?) would require. It has a reasonable fall to shed the rain, so didn't think any sort of self-leveling compound would do. Just wanted some ideas other than putting patio tiles down to make it look okay.
Thanks in advance! :)

You actually beat me to it because I thought of your helpful reply to me and was going to post your answer here.

Haven't got around to it yet because I think it's going to be the best part of £100, or more if I get someone who knows what they're doing with a trowel.
