Hi. My parents are considering (with a view to ending the need to paint every few years) having the eaves of their house covered in plastic. The existing wood to be left in place.

The advantage of this is clear but are there any disadvantages e.g. could the wood underneath the plastic rot away and cause unseen problems?

Many thanks.

the wood underneath should be sound, and any rot cut out and replaced, if you are worried apply a preservative to the wood before cladding, but you weather proff it by adding the grp - overcladding is the way forward, and it won't break the bank either.

Thanks, that's reassuring.
"by adding the grp". What do you mean by grp?

Cheers.

plastic fascia cladding is glass reinforced plastic or grp - cheap to buy and tough stuff, with a nice smooth finish.
