Cracked ABS - temporary repair...?

Hi all,

Got a cracked 2" ABS pipe (cracked as it goes into a T). Would normally cut out and replace but the T goes into the floor and then behind a tiled box section.

What's a good temporary solution to patching up cracked ABS? Denzo tape? Duct? Parcel? Pray tell!!

I'm not a plumber but have worked in plastics manufacturing with ABS and we used to repair cracks/breaks by using acetone which dissolved the ABS and then re-set.

I find it odd though that ABS would be used for a pipe, wouldn't have thought it would have the right type of characteristics.

Most plastic material is not identified correctly by anyone who is not an expert on plastics.

The obvious question is what is this pipe used for?

Usually a 2" pipe in domestic use is a waste pipe and so the internal press is very low.

Providing there is not movement occuring I have usually found that if it is cleaned and abraded then epoxy resin will usually effect a goor repair but sometimes coarse fibreglass mat has to be used to give some reinforcement.

I wish a plastics expert could tell us why the plastic hydro blocks in GlowWorm boilers are so likely to split and how they got it so wrong when they designed the part.
