Ive just put up 25m2 of new fence to go with original fence that lasted the storms last year.

My original fence and hut is Cuprinol rich cedar clolour but i have bought and prefer Cuprinol Rustic brown, however ive started painting over the rich cedar which looks ok for 5 mins then is just going back to rich cedar colour.

Is it possible to change to a lighter colour, or im a wasting my time?
Is sanding the fence an option? (a long & painful option :( )

New fence is looking good with the rustic brown after two coats, but im worrying im going to have a 'multicolour swapshop fence and hut'

Thanks allan

the stuff is translucent so you can't make it lighter than it already is.

Could i sand the wood with a electric sander? or is there any chemical or solvent i could use before the cupinrol? cheers allan

you could buy some new fencing.

Or learn to love dark colours

Or you could write to the makers and see if they make a safe solvent that will wash the stain off

Or you could try a powerwasher and see if it does any good.

Which is darker? Cedar or Rustic?
