I've finally got round to dressing my living room and one of the final bits is the curtains. Looking to use a standard aluminium curtain rail from john Lewis but not sure where to fix it.

I would prefer not to fix a bolster above the window as i have original victorian mouldings above the picture rail and don't want to damage the plaster however the other option is to fix it to the architrave surrounding the window but the complication is that there is a 20cm overhang each side so that we get enough clearance from the windows when the curtains are open.

ideas?
