Has anyone ever cut a tap washer slightly to allow it to fit a tap? I have been trying to change my pillar tap washer and the washers I have (black rubber type) are all slightly too big for it. Some are different thicknesses also. I am only talking of mm here but I have heard you can cut them slightly to fit...? Anyone ever done this? Is a normal standing knife fine for this?!! Thanks for any info!

I didnt cut, I used emery cloth & sanded the edges down.
The diameter was only reduced fractionally but it did work
