Cylinder Thermostat

It must mean that your pump is running continuously whether heat is required in CH or HW or not.

I agree. It's a very simple system in which the pump and boiler are on whenever the programmer (time clock) demands HW. The cylinder water will come up to boiler temperature and the boiler will go on and off on its internal stat but the pump will keep running. :( :( :(

Fitting the new cylinder stat and zone valve will make the whole system more efficient. The pump and boiler will run only when they are needed. 8) 8) 8)

Er em, Perhaps you can satisfy my curiosity but why is a physicist giving advice on a plumbing forum ?.
It's not that I think their is anything wrong with your advice but don't you have better and more important things to be working on ?. (nuclear energy , big scary bombs (Iran pays well these days I hear), creating free energy etc) and ground breaking stuff in general that us mere mortals on here can argue about.
Are we going to see a nuclear powered domestic boiler anytime soon that will run for about five decades for next to nothing ?.

My regular job is fixing particle accelerators. They have lots of plumbing in them. They have gas too, though its sulphur hexafluoride rather than methane.

I did spend more years than I care to remember working on control systems for nuclear power stations. I don't do bombs. 8) 8) 8)

Nobody has ever succeeded in getting energy out of nothing. In the distant past there were many designs for perpetual motion machines, none of which ever worked. Despite this there are still people out there who think they've cracked it and can't wait to make their fortunes. There was a thread on a dubious looking device (monatomic hydrogen again???) about a month back.

Will you be able to get a domestic lithium-deuterium fusion ring from B&Q in the foreseeable future? Probably not in my lifetime but I wouldn't rule it out. There will certainly be arguments over exactly who is allowed to service them. No doubt you'll have to be CORNI registered - and pay the government an astronomical fee for the privilege. No change there then!

Got to go to work now.
