i feel a bit daft asking this but here goes.

what is best to use when you cant reach a ceiling that you are going to plaster. should i get hold of two mild crates and a strong plank????
if so where from.

whats the best method, i have seen the stiltes but i am still learning so dont want to fork out for thos just yet.

A couple of step ladders and a 6x2x2.4m will cover just about every situation. You place the plank on whichever step suits you best.

Basically yes; I use 2 pair of kitchen steps, some use stilts which are worth considering if your in it for good but don’t ever be tempted to use blocks, they are not stable enough. When I first started I fell off such an arrangement when the blocks & plank tumbled only half way through the job, I turned my ankle but had to carry on in total agony; I was in so much pain I thought I'd broken my ankle but it turned out to be just a bad sprain & just needed resting for a few days.

Wooden hop ups,,,,, plasterer's used them all the time in the past. We all made own ones. Stilts were only used by clowns in the circus back then. Nowadays,, clowns in the circus use hop ups.

a decent sized hop up i find does for most ceilings, the bigger/longer it is the less you're hopping off and moving it.

waiting for an excuse to get my stilts tho, did a biggy (for me) a little while ago, laid on with my hop up but troweled up from the floor, could reach ok for troweling, i could walk from one end to the other without taking my trowel off the ceiling, was a revelation and the penny dropped, GOTTA get some stilts and maybe donate my hop-up to zippos ;-)

jewson was where i got mine from, quite a bit wider than the standard ones.

YOu can get durastilt copies from ebay, I bought a pair for a lad last year £80 delivered to site. Get them if you can, regular ceilings off a hop up not good for your body or the ceiling

Carrillion sites won't allow ANY hop up or bench without a handrail

i have used an ally platform aprox 3 foot long can be bought most places lightweight also folds up an its easy moved
