Damage to SVP

We're currently having a conservatory fitted by a local contractor. In digging the foundations that run close to the bottom of our SVP stack, they broke the ceramic/clay bend at the base of the uPVC soil stack. The uPVC pipe used to sit inside a lip on the clay bend but they've broken off this lip for about 1/4 of the diameter which has caused water to leak out at the base of the soil pipe whenever the toilet is flushed. I pointed this out and their repair consists of piling some cement around the base of the pipe where the clay bend has broken. Is this satisfactory or should I be getting them to replace the bend? I'm not particularly happy with it but don't know if I'm worrying about nothing?

I`d get someone who knows what they are doing to replace the bend Maybe it`s just a temporary repair

They did say they don't do drainage, and part of the work includes moving an inspection chamber and they've got someone else coming to do that - so maybe you're right - maybe they've stuck the cement on for now and the guy moving the IC will repair the pipe too.

But I take it you're saying i'm right not to be happy with some cement thrown on it as a 'repair'!?!

They may have temporary fixed it with cement, hoping that you won't cause a fuss, then they will leave as it is.

Make a fuss and see what they intend to do. At the end of the day , they must have liability insurance. Don't make final payment until your happy.
