Damp. Advice needed

We have some damp looks like wet patches inside our bedroom on the exterior wall facing open fields. On the wall where our window is we also have damp either side (like the crumbly white stuff) on the exterior the lintells which have just been painted are now brown stained

We are in the process of waiting for a roofer to come out and out on roof vents and I understand out walls will need fella sterling but what is causing the problem and what is causing the staining??
