We have just bought an older house in need of renovation so Im sure I will be visiting this site loads!
First question - having taken up five (yes!) layers of lino today from kitchen floor, uncovered original quarry tiles which seem to be bedded on earth
The whole kitchen floor is very wet, with salt deposits etc and the internal walls damp too. Imagine a modern extention shape, this is what the kitchen is like although its original to the house which is about 90 -100 years old.
Outside the bottom 12" of the walls have been painted with some kind of peeling rubber stuff so its obviously an ongoing problem (they just stuck another layer of lino over when the damp got too bad!)
Whats the first course of action to rid this room of damp - will we need to have the floor dug up?
Any advice greatfully received.
