The damp patch on the floor is the hearth of the old fireplace which was left in by the builders and thd over. To the left is the wooden suspended floor of the original house and to the right is the new concrete floor.

What's the best solution please?

1. Dig the whole hearth out - with all the

2. Dig the new concrete out (above the hearth - about 2 inches deep) and insert dpm and thin layer of insulation.

Or something else?

Thanks

Its better to photo areas of concern by first removing all obstructions and chattels so as to give the viewer a clear view or views of your issues.

Put in the search box "damp hearth" and then scroll down a little for "another damp hearth" 6 july 2017.
The pic in the thread will give you an understanding of your situation.
Then come back here.

No vent can be seen on your chimney breast. Redundant flues must be vented.
