(Dan's)...patenting effort, however, eventually came to nothing, not least because one Edward F Zaparka had patented a similar device as far back as the early 1930s. As Dan wryly pointed out when he faxed me a copy of Zaparka's patent, it was originally filed on 3 April 1931, exactly 10 days before one Daniel Sexton Gurney was born...
