Just some feedback ... after advice here, when I finished my decking project last year gave it 2 full coats of Liberon decking oil.

The decking was not used as at end of summer, so no foot traffic at all ... now this year it has seriously deteriorated ....take a look at:

when completed - http://tinyurl.com/pswjt7m

now - http://tinyurl.com/npe8bhx
and http://tinyurl.com/q5enppc

That seems terrible performance in only 6 months.

Been in touch with Liberon .. they advise full removal with pressure washer, then full sanding or deck & reapply ....

That means the expensive Liberon has been a waste in cost & and now the effort & cost of redoing this will be significant.

The area of deck not exposed to rain is unaffected.

Oil normally soaks in and does not sit on the surface, are you sure it was not decking stain?
Have oiled mine several times and oil always disappeared into timber [unless you apply too much]

absolutely 100% certain its is Liberon Decking oil .... that was what I wanted something that soaked in not a surface treatment.

Was it treated while dry during a dry spell , appreciate that's not often up in jock land.

Jock Land ..... that would be 300 miles North for me ... I am in South Wales, product had been stored dry before fitting and was dry before oiling.

Liberon advise they think machined finish on decking polishes wood surface preventing correct absorption ... hmmmm

It's oil.

Typically doesn't last long, you normally find a list of caveats on any warranty (if they even have one), and it's always your fault if it fails.

being in the timber trade i am staggered they advised pressure washing the decking its possibly the most damaging thing you can do unless you get the angle of spray correct

curious as to how long the decking was down before it was oiled ??
