Hello i hope this is the right place to ask this question, i have black mould growing in my daughters bedroom which i'm pretty sure is caused by condensation. I know what i should be doing to stop moisture in my house but my question is now how should i clean off the mould? should i also strip the paint back to the plaster ( it is a clay-based paint earth-born i think) should i seal the wall? Do i actually need to hack off the plaster and start again?
Help please!!

once you have cured the damp it will hibernate. You can then wash it down with a bleach solution which will kill the mildew (it cleans off easier when it is killed) or you can buy anti-mildew treatments in paint shops (check it is not just a bleach but leaves a poisonous coating)

Unless you cure the condensation you are wasting your time.

Yep..

Use a 60/30 water bleach solution..scrub it on..leave over night, wash off with clean water then paint.

Thankx for the advice...
i'm trying to stop the causes of condensation...i've stopped using my tumble drier etc, we have an extractor fan in the bathroom but not one in the kitchen do you think it would be worthwhile to buy a de-humidifier?

you shouldn't need a dehumidifier.

Start with ventilation. If that doesn't work, add more ventilation.

Run the bathroom extractor during and after all baths and showers. Until even the towels are dry they will be releasing a lot of moisture into the air.

A tumble drier is not a prob provided it has a vent hose to take the steam outside the house.

Never drape wet washing about the house.

If you put lids on your cooking pans and don't overboil them or cook all day, kitchen steam is not so bad, but an extractor is useful to have, especially an extractor hood venting through the wall. Circulating hoods are useless.l

If you have draught-free glazing, use trickle vents (add them if you have none)

What do you think was the cause of the condensation?

Sorry it has taken me ages to post a reply.. i think the causes of condensation in my house are:
1) a tumble drier that vented straight into the room!!!
2)driyng clothes on my clothes horse inside
3)draping wet towels over my banisters
i have stopped all of these
4)Not having an extractor fan in the kitchen

p.s what is a trickle vent?

a trickle vent is basically a hole or slot in the windowframe. It usually has a plastic or metal cover over it to look neater.

if your frames don't have them, holes can be manufactured using an electric drill (avoid drilling into the glass) but needs more care on plastic windows as you have to avoid any locking or strengthening parts.
