I have a total of 6 x 50 watt 240 v halogen lights on two fittings. I have blown two dimmers (two gang) (rated 400W) Do halogen lights not take dimmers?

they need to be derated. cant remember exactly what by, but 300W before derating will be too much for a 400W switch

its 50 %, so 300w of lights will require a 600w dimmer
