This weekend I tried out the pressure washer on the patio pavers, but because the pointing is so far gone, it kicked up more dirt than I bargained for.
Do I carry on regardless or knuckle down and repoint first?
Any suggestions on how to clean out the joint lines quickly?

If the paving is laid on mortar then go ahead and blast away and remove as much as you can with the hose then repoint afterwards.

If its laid on sand then be very careful as you may unsettle the bedding. Although paving laid on sand shouldnt really be jointed with mortar as it will always be a little flexible and cause the pointing to fail quickly.

As for cleaning out the old then you have my sympathies. Not a fun job. No real short cuts, grinder, chisel hammer and boredom.

I'm using an SDS mortar chisel, works quite good. Gets a nice depth. Still hard work for my back tho'....
