Hi all , i've just taken up walking on treadmill. trying to do at least 20mins a day walking on it if i can - this is from zero excercising , my daughter had a treadmill left in her house by previous owners and didnt use it so she has given it to me.

only walking at 1.8kph at moment for 20mins a day at the moment to start off with (thatwill seem like a joke i suppose to seasoned runners/walkers lol)

I rest my mobile phone on the ledge of the handlebars next to the built in computer screen. - but i am getting different data from the inbuilt treadmill computer compared to my fitness watch details (huawei Band 9) so i dont know what to treat as the most accurate.

take todays workout go on the treadmill:

Treadmill computer:

My Watch reported:

So - Computer said I had covered 0.59km's - watch said I had covered 2.04Km's
Computer said I burned 42.1 calories - Watch said I covered 105.
Treadmill said I done 1617 steps - Watch said I had walked 2,124 Steps.

Who would i be better off believing?

Thanks.

Treadmill for distance, watch for calories.

Actually both distances are probably nonsense. 20mins is 1/3 an hour. Normal walking speed is around 4kph, so it should be in the region of 1.5km. 2km is 6kph which is a very fast speed walk, not something you'd normally have an 87 HR for.

Unless your treadmill knows weight etc it can't work out your calories. Unless your watch knows height it can't work out your distance on a static run. Assuming you have no underlying health conditions. The important goal is to elevate your heart rate from the exercise. Its also important to check that it falls reasonably quickly when you stop.

I assume your fitness band/watch can tell you HR zones? Ideally you want your exercise to get you in to zone 2. Depending on various factors that will be around 110-130 bpm

Its worth testing your resting HR, this exercise should help you lower it, if its above 60-70.

As others have said, look for improvements in whatever you standardise on. Speed increases will be better than time increases.

I'm pretty sure most gym equipment, certainly the cheaper / home use end of the market, simply 'calculates' things like calories burnt based on turns of the pedals or rotations of the walking/running mat.

I used to have an exercise bike and it said I'd burnt a calorie no matter how fast/slow I moved the pedals ;)
