Dishwasher fill problem

My Kenmore dishwasher (14 yrs old) will only fill with water on first cycle. Once hot, the cycles will run, but no water will pump in. If cold, any cycle will fill so I don't think its the selector. Any thoughts on what part would control this?

A bad water valve can/will work for the first or second cycle and then do nothing after it warms up. If you want to be certain, check the coil in the valve for continuity when it is supposed to be filling with water and isn't. If it shows an open reading that is your proof for the bad valve.
