Yes, no problem
If you are tight for space on the wall then consider a semi-concealed gas meter box. Provided there is space for the mains cable to enter the ground the gas meter box can be almost directly under the electric meter box.

when side by side a lot of builders keep a brick width between them, which is more structural than any thing with flush fitting boxes. Don't forget that this type need a lintel above them as well
