Do TRVs wear out?

ours are 20yrs old now and i have never noticed them ever turning a hot rad off.

either they do but ive never noticed or they are crap or they wear out?

They can/do eventually wear out (become ineffective). In the case of cheap(er) ones this can often be after only a few years. If you can find the make/model of yours you may find you can still het replacement heads that will fit.
