Hi there

Really hope somebody can help.

We have a roof window in our building (looks like a velux style) that is around 5 meters above our first floor landing so we cannot get to it - i am trying to find out what make of window it is and what the opening system is called.

Its prob round 30-40 yars old and is connected to some kind of hand crank (that is broken)

The window appears to have 2 white handles at the bottom.

attached are some images (the roof/vault/walls - These pictures are taken from the landing below

Walls and ceiling everything have been painted black to confuse things)

It is stuck open so I ma trying to find somebody who i can eventually hire to close this/fix it but I dont even know what this type of window it is called for a place to start!

any help much appreciated!

Hi T,
Does the handle wind freely, or does it just go round and round?
I don't know the name of it, but it looks like if you pull that cable down it may close.

It looks to me like a teleflex type system.
Something like...

We have them throughout our work buildings. Parts are replaceable, but also the upper mechanism can be replaced with an electrical actuator, if that is more convenient.

The handle winds freely but it doesnt seem to move the window. as its stuck open a few inches its making our building freezing. the cord is like a very hard /solid wire. it doesnt seem to move. bit worried to do anything incase it opens the window more!

If you are local to Mansfield/Nottingham these are the experts, not used them for the past 10 years, but they could repair all types of alu windows. There are probably many other companies offering a similar service.
Regards

Were it me, I would straighten those three bends up at the window, into the one. That would allow the length of the whole pipe to be moved down/reduced in length. That would present some new surface to the winder handle, and might be all it needs, though a new gear/handle would be worth fitting too.
