Had a quote for new Fascias/soffits and guttering, but the guy wanted to put the new pvc Fascias over the Existing Wooden Fascias (Over Cladding) the wood is not in bad condition, Is this a reliable way on fitting Fascias or should the wood be taken off first.

Anyone that has has new fascia fitted by overcladding the existing wood would be a great help of their experiences.

I flat out refuse to put new fascia over old, even if your current wooden fascias seem ok now, they wont last aslong asthe plastic being put over the top.

Going over old is very much a bodge up and i'd steer well clear of it.

Fully agree with SAS - only the **** in their 10 plate fully pictured Mercs have no qualms about putting pvc over bad wood. Tear it off fully and pay attention to rafter tails and the last 2 foot of tile batten on the gable - they could be rotten as well.

What planet are you on?

It is perfectly ok to cover wooden fascia with plastic aslong as the job looks nice and dandy.
If the wood is sound and has been fixed using the right fixings then the timber once cladded in plastic will last for years upon years upon years to come.

Aslong as the timber can still breath and is not being penetrated by water then it will last for centuries to come.

What do i know, i must be a cowboy/carpenter ;/

I see your point mate but we do a lot of insurance work where we have to rip off the old capping and then the wood underneath as its sweated like shyte due to being capped.

I can not even afford insurance for a 1.7 p reg ford escort van...

How about yourself?
Much work coming in 'advising' people to have work done that never needs to be done ;)

Lately i have been thinking i have gone into the wrong trade as a carpenter.
People seem to think we just lay laminate frigging floors all day with the odd door hanging here and there.

Learn the damn right basics before you go around calling people gypo's when you do not know much yourself...apart from the quick buck ;)

Air vents should of been installed...

I am more then sure half half of the dimwits who design/manage these builds should be behind McDonald's serving up fries.

More new bright ideas are sure to come :)

Q. Is this the right place for an argument?

A. No, you want the Plumbers forum, two doors along.

Even with soffit vents every 12" and eaves protection trays to keep the fascias dry, the box ends still rot ;)
