Double layering plasterboard, I've read to stagger joints but also some do first layer horizontally and it doesn't matter if some edges overhang as long as the 2nd layer is on the studs and noggins correctly? Any ideas?

Yeah the first layer doesn’t need to have all board ends on noggins. But stagger the long edge against the 2nd layer so they’re not in the same place.
