Can anyone tell me how to get the plastic coating off the downlights in our bathroom? They have been fitted without removing the protecting plastic and now I can't get it off and I can smell the plastic when they heat up!

Some downlights do come with protected packaged shield, within the fitting in the area between lens and lamp. The nature of gaining access to this would depend on the type/brand of fitting you have.
So pictures/model type, would help.
Some are quarter, half turn, some are full twist till free.....
