Hi All

Would any plumbers be able to comment on the suitability of this fluid as a drain unblocker for a bathroom sink just going on the description on the label at the back.

I see specialist drain unblocker products for sale online but this seems like a general all purpose cleaner to me, though I am no plumber. Although it does list drains in its uses it does not list as an unblocking solution. Any informed views appreciated.

Chemical Drain unblockers can do more harm than good. Half the time they don't work, and then, if they haven't melted your pipework, they will melt the skin and tissue of the next poor Sod who has to undo all the pipework to clean it out. A mechanical method is far superior, if you can get hold of a wet vac, try that first. Sometimes can suck the blockage back out.

It’s states it’s a cleaner and disinfectant , can’t think why you would interpret that as unblocker.

As above, it is not a drain "unblocker".

I do use the aggressive acid drain unblockers from time to time but you need to consider that if you pour them in to a trap, and it doesn't work as intended, when you release the trap, you risk being splashed with acid.

Thanks all for your responses. The pictured solution was used by a plumber to try and unblock my sink. It did not look right to me which is why I sought more informed opinions.

did the plumber remove all the trap and clean that out
I have had some success with Vinegar and baking powder - rather than chemicals

As soon as a small path has been cleared, any unblocking fluid will just run away. Dismantling traps is the only way to achieve the desired result.

As an aside... I currently have a 30cm long screw driver in my bathroom. I use it to stab the trap from above. The trap is one where you can use a 50 pence piece to remove the underside. I recently tried a 50p coin, I bent the coin. And yes, I tried going clock and anti-clockwise.

The blockage is the result of my facial hair (I shave infrequently), the acid based solutions will "melt" the hair, but I guess a plunger will do the job.

The hair isn't the problem, it's the dried shaving foam glueing it all together. Hot water, leave it soak in then flush with more water will help
