Hi
I am in the process of building another pond in my garden for breeding koi, half below half above ground. While digging came across drainage for the house clay pipe, i spoke to a builder and he told me as long as they are protected they should be ok.
so now they have 16 inches of soil and clay over them plus six inches of concrete wondered if anyone has any views on this.

I'd have slapped the concrete over the drain - that's more protection than it would ever have in the ground with tree roots hunting for cracks and so forth. brownie points for your builder ;)

22" overall depth should keep them out of mischief................
