I would like to drain my system to change a few valves.

When connecting a hose to the drain tap and opening the valve nothing happens.

Do i need to open a valve on the boiler? (Worcester 35CDi II)

Any quick tips? ive searched the site and seen no other similar posts :(

Try a different drain cock. Therubber seal in this one may be stuck, so sealing it off.

You could also put some plastic sheets down and poke a small screwdriver up the drain cock, but be vary wary, if it suddenly goes it will come out under the system pressure

I seem to remember the turning of the small square nut on the drain off tee did not mean the washer was undoing at the same time. In other words the washer is stuck, dismantle, using small long nosed pliers, poke/pull washer, bingo water floods out all over you and the floor.

Turn boiler off with mainswitch. Drain water from radiator until pressure is 0. Connect hose pipe to drain cock. Put plenty of towels on plastic sheet. Unscrew stop and screw 5mm woodscrew a few turns in and pull. If the washer comes out, put plug back in and turn 2 turns to keep in place.
