I have used them in a small area (alcove next to an unused chimney). They are easy to put in and you can see that their chemicals weep into the surrounding mortar bed. Whether they work as says, I can't tell you though. Since I didn't have the time to give the old existing damp plaster a chance to dry out (well, I gave it a week to no avail), I removed all plaster, applied a SBR slurry and replastered in lime. Then there was no sign of damp.
Which of the ingredients (dry rod, SBR, lime plaster) were the essential ones, I can't tell you.
