Drywall, when to scrim tape?

If you did scrim after filling to level it would defeat the object of having a taper in the first place if thats what you meant?

The scrim tape is full of holes already so you can fill after, that's what we did. We did fill one corner gap that was particularly big first before the tape, then another couple of layers.
