I've got a log cabin coming next week (Dunster House Daft Badger), and am trying to decide how best to treat it to prolong it's life. I've decided on Protek Royal Exterior for the outside when finished, and want it natural inside so will just use wood oil or varnish, but my question is if anyone recommends a pre-treatment of wood preserver sprayed on all wood BEFORE construction? Apart from the bearers the wood is untreated spruce and in my mind a wood preserver to prevent against mould, rot, woodworm etc would be a sensible precaution, but I don't know if this is overkill, and also if it is even advisable to use this type of preserver on interior and Exterior surfaces?

Any advice/lessons learnt would be appreciated.

I'd phone the company and ask.

I would also phone
Osmo oil technical

From Dunster House:

"All of our garden buildings have pressure-treated floor bearers as standard.
All our Pressure Treated timber is for Use Class 3"

--

From the Wood Protection Association:

"Use Class 3 is for end uses where wood is used outdoors
NOT in contact with the ground."

Is it not more likely to be class 3c?

3(c)
Service SituationExternal coated: above ground. Exposed to frequent wetting.
Principal Biological ThreatFungal decay
Application examplesExternal joinery; roof soffits, fascias and bargeboards; cladding, valley gutter timbers; external load bearing timbers.

Don't leave timbers in contact with soil, regardless of any claims about treatment.
It needs to just overlap any solid base to stop rainwater splashing up it, to prolong the life of the lower timbers.
Consider guttering to take rainwater away, again to keep splashing under control.
