I need to fit eaves vents to a very old property with no sofits. The existing roof design actually has the last row of slates cemented to the stone wall beneath.

We're basically opening up the roof space to have a vaulted ceiling and so need to provide adequate airflow between the sarking boards and insulation board between each pair of joists.

I found these:

http://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/kg9631-klober-mini-uni-line-slate-vent-box-of-10.html

But given the requirement to vent between every pair of joists (20 in all), that would amount to a huge number of of these slate vents. Is there another product/approach that used while ensuring all voids are ventilated.

Cheers,

Under the circumstances the vents in the link are the best for your job.

You can install over fascia vents but as you say you have a bedded eaves course and would cause a fair bit of upheaval.

Remember you need high level vents as well....

Thanks for that. That is both good and bad news. Good that they don't cause too much upheaval to install but bad that I'm going to need so many of them (at £22 each). Was hoping there might be an alternative (cheaper) product I could use.

Not wishing to scrimp, understand the importance of their function, just want to find the most cost effective product to use.

I did find this link to an american product and wondered if anyone has seen a UK equivalent:

Would still require removal of first couple of rows of slates though so might work out more expensive anyway.

Yes, understood that high level vents will also be added to the roof, need to choose between more slate vents or replacing ridge tiles with rented ones.

Only point of confusion for me is that there are plenty of houses in our neighbourhood with similar conversions (vaulted ceilings or loft extensions) with no soffits (as per our house) but no visible slate or other vents. I wonder how they solved the problem?
