hi,
this morning my boiler (just over a year old) had lost pressure and we had no hot water, so having been taught by the boilerman i seized my trusty spanner and began letting water into the system.

however disaster struck and the little spanner dropped out of my hand and before i cold get it back on and close the valve the pressure was up to 3.0bar and on the high end of the red area.

cue frantic searching through the (frankly terrible) owner's manual to try and find how to let water out of the system again and reduce the pressure. but i just can't find it anywhere. i really don't want to call out the friendly boilerman again to show me something so basic, but i might have to if no-one can advise me where the heck i have to fiddle with to let water out of the boiler again....

Find a vessel to catch the water, and open a radiator bleed valve until the pressure is down again. You might have to run off a couple of litres.

If you have a radiator that's above lino rather than carpet, so much the better.

And do not use the prv as sometimes is suggested, as they quite often keep leaking.

But it's just soooo sooooo tempting lol .... Lesson learned on that score since being out of pocket for one new prv an hour fitting it and an half hour in the merchants.

Attach a hose to a drain off on one the rads (that boiler should have at least one fitted somewhere) and let the excess pressure/water out, all you need is a rad key a hose and a jubilee clip. Then have a bleed of the rads again an top up as necessary (slowly with a firm grip on your tool (pun intended)

many thanks everyone. must confess i actually phoned my friendly boilerman who explained everything!!!!!
