Hi - I live in an area without gas. I have a 4 bed detached house which currently uses a large oil tank and an ancient oil-fired boiler. Is it worth going to an electric boiler. Is it worth/possible to get a powerful electric combi boiler??

No. Either upgrade your oil heating with a new boiler or go solid fuel.

Don't cosider a leccy boiler under any circumstances with that size house.

I've inherited one, and the bills are HORRIFIC

Cost of heating per unit.. Least first.

Mains gas, oil, bottle gas, electric.

How well insulated is/can your house be?

Electric boilers are incredibly expensive to run, but a heat pump might be the answer if you can get the place insulated up to the eyeballs.

Otherwise a condensing oil boiler is your first stop.

The oil boiler will probably last forever.
I do suggest you get it serviced so it is running at it's best.
Not doing this is a false economy you will easily waste service cost in fuel
if the boiler isn't running at it's best.

Ensure you have modern controls thermostatic valves, wall thermostat.
