Electric shorting on fast spin

Can someone please help. I have a Hotpoint WM62 washing machine which operates normally until the fast spin toward the end of the cycle. It is at that point that just as it gets going it shorts out the electric and obviously stops. I have looked at the carbon brushes/connections and they do look a bit frazzled but wouldn't that affect the whole cycle ?

remove brushes and check them for length ,if they are down to nothing it will cause this ,cheap at less than a tenner ,if it still trips after that motor is worn
