Hi,
My sheds are 80 meters away from my house.
Ive got an outside plug fitted so could I just dig a trench (450mm deep) plug the one end into the outside socket and then get a socket for the other end? What size armoured cable would be best? Im thinking 6mm 3 core as I would only run like a 2hp compressor and few 5w lights.
Thanks

More important than cable size is the knowledge of whether the current ring of sockets could handle an extra load like that.

Is there anyway you could run a new cable direct from the CU? If you could do that a 6mm cable would run most things fine.

If you connect to CU it will be a new circuit and will be notifiable work, and will need to done by an electrician who can self certify or you can notify your local council and pay a substantial sum for them to certify it. If you plug it into your existing socket it will not be notifiable but you will need to correctly terminate your SWA cable in a waterproof enclosure and use a short length of flexible cable to your plug.
