Hi, I have an old cold fire aperture that is approx 900 wide and 500 deep. I want to raise the height to accommodate a Rayburn. Obviously I will need to insert some kind of lintel / RSJ to support the new higher opening, but what can I support the chimney with whilst I carry out this job? I really don't want to start knocking bricks out for the lintel only for the whole lot to come crashing down before i can get it in

Strongboys and acros will sort you out:-

Although, if your total aperture is only 900mm, you're really only going to be able to create a 700mm opening (assuming min 100mm end-bearings).

Thanks for that Hotrod.

The 900mm is the width which will stay as is. It's the height I am looking at increasing.

Cheers
