escort mpg./

i have a 1995 m reg. escort saloon with a zetec 1600cc injection engine ,
i would be intrested in any answers about what miles per gallon to expect/
it is all short stop/start/ town trips,
ive been doing a very rough milage check and i reckon im getting about 65 miles on a quarter of tank [ oh/ its petrol engine ] . 12.1 gallon/ 55 ltr tank.
engine is in good nick ,runs smooth and has a new air filter, and no petrol leaks . plugs are the right colour as well .
it is a first time starter, and i am not heavy on the go,go, pedal.

At the petrol station you need to insert the 'gun' fully into tank filler, fill 'to the gun' or until the 'gun' trips off, then gently pull trigger again until 'gun' trips off - you could repeat this...... zero the trip mileage counter. Note not advocating filling to brim - expensive stuff.

Drive as per normal until about 1/4 tank or less remains, then repeat the above filling method preferably at the same pump - you will then have a pretty accurate assessment of fuel used and distance covered... Using the gauge is futile not accurate enough, only an indicator.
You'll be lucky to get 28 mpg about 6.2 miles per litre - I get this from a 1.6 injected twink - around town a/c always on

yep, thanks for that advice empip, will do as you say on monday [ might need a bank loan ,lol. ] and then run it till quarter of tank , take reading and then go through process again and compare readings.
i have been getting my readings from half tank to quarter full , not easy to get it so accurate that way is it. will post update when i get to first reading, cheers/ r.r.

JUST AN UPDATE AS I SAID I WOULD [ EMPIP ] AND ALL INTRESTED.
I FILLED UP THE NEARLY EMPTY TANK. EVEN GIVE IT 3 OR 4 EXTRA ON THE PUMP CUT OUT TRIGGER. RESET TRIP TO ZERO./

DONE REFILL ON NEARLY EMPTY TANK YESTERDAY ,PLUS THE EXTRA ON THE PUMP TRIGGER AGAIN.
NEEDED .....038.76 LTRS TO FILL IT.
IM TOLD THATS ABOUT 24 TO THE GALLON ?. AND AS STATED ITS ALL SHORT STOP/START / TRIPS/. SO WOULD THAT BE ABOUT RIGHT ?
