...I discovered a little nugget that said the car is equipped with a “European On Board Diagnosis” system.

It sounds harmless. A little light comes on to tell owners when an emission-related component is wearing out. But then it goes on to say, casually, that a log of the engine operation is kept ... and can be “accessed by traffic police”...

'I' Being one Jezzer !

Good thing surely?

ive heard/read about this i dont think its just for the emissions, the problem with this is if there is an accident then the cars ecu is read and if there has been a problem logged then the insurance company will probably not pay out, they will say the car is not road worthy,

now if i sell you the car to you without telling/knowing that there is a problem with the car does that mean your liable?

all cars should have remote control codes in the ECU so that the police can dissable them..

that way they could stop all the idiots who try and run from the police at break neck speeds the wrong way round islands etc..

they could also make you accelerate past speed cameras and go through red lights when your brakes fail

don't be stupid.. it would only be installed to apply the brakes and disconnect the accelerator..

and to turn the engine off..

In the UK insurers may check to see if the ecu has been remapped or chipped for extra performance. Such tuning would invalidate insurance if not disclosed, but stored fault codes aren't going to be an issue. They're just a diagnostics tool. It's nothing new.

really so if a problem occurs with the abs system or any other technical problem that has been logged on the ecu,but will not stop the normal operation of the car then you could still be in trouble.because the car is deemed not to be road worthy.hence the cop out.
insurance companys will do there upmost to not pay up if there is any reason what so ever.
a neighbour of mine works for the claims dept of an insurance company and the stories he has told me on there refusal to pay out is amazing.

Then there would be nothing left to watch on Sky 1
