Ex-local authority Boiler help

Hi,
We are in the process of modernising an ex local authority maisoneete.
One of the first jobs is to replace the current boiler with a combi boiler.
The current boiler is in a cupboard in the kitchen, attached to a flue which, we think, runs up the inside of the flat to the roof.
We have an air vent in the kitchen window.
We've had some guys round to spec out the place, and they have said that they will not touch the old flue, as it is made of a ceramic material that would just shatter..therefore they say that they would only install a new combi boiler on an outside wall, which would basicall mean it would be on the lounge wall, which is not too pleasing.
Can anyone tell me if they have had similiar problems,and does this ceramic flue thing sound right ???

I am not a plumber or heating engineer, but i do seem to remember seeing such things years ago, and every time i have had a boiler fitted they always put in the "tin snake" although as you say combis do not need this.

Also did you know that gas appliances can only be installed by a corgi registered person? why not get more quotes.
